Recently, an enthusiastic team of Year 9 students from De La Salle College participated in the first round of the Tournament of the Minds, an academic competition that celebrates collaborative problem-solving and critical thinking. This competition offers students across Victoria a unique platform to apply their creativity and teamwork skills in real-world scenarios.
The Tournament of the Minds is structured into various challenges, including spontaneous problem-solving activities and long-term projects. Our students, self-named the “De La Astros,” tackled both aspects with impressive dedication and skill. In the spontaneous problem-solving round, they demonstrated their ability to think on their feet and address complex issues quickly. For their long-term project, they presented an innovative model designed to reduce plastic pollution in local parks.
Their project involved extensive research, design, and development, and the results were showcased in a detailed presentation. The judges were highly impressed with the De La Astros’ creativity and practical approach. The team’s presentation was met with enthusiastic support from an audience of parents, teachers, and peers, who were proud of the students’ hard work and ingenuity.
