On November 11 2024, 11 dedicated and hardworking Year 7 and 8s competed in the ACC Junior Debating and Public Speaking Competition held at St Bernards College, Essendon. This involved much preparation prior; the students brainstormed, researched, structured, wrote and continually practised their debates and speeches. Each student demonstrated creativity and commitment during this process.
Topics for the debates included:
The Government should provide free WIFI to every household,
The Government should ban children from playing video games on weeknights.
We should limit the amount of clothes a person can own.
The debating team was victorious in all three of their debates and placed second overall in their division. Congratulations to Anthony Sims, Nicholas Burke, Adam Tobin, Patrick Burke, Angelopoulos and EJ Surmano.
Each of the public speakers displayed poise and passion in their delivery and were rewarded for this in the adjudicators scoring of their presentations.
Congratulations to Art Gustincic, Jack Traianedes, James Wright, AJ Leota – Seiuli Seufatu and Ollie Sholten as our emergency.
Special mention to the Year 11 debating students who helped mentor these young men in the lead up to competition – Rory McMillian, Christian Petrides and Stanley Trilsbach
