Sport

De La Salle College has a proud sporting tradition. Sport is considered a high priority and an integral part of each student’s education.

The main objective of our programs is to instil in our students a love of sport and lifelong commitment to health and fitness.

Sport in Years 7 – 12

ACC Sports

As members of the Associated Catholic Colleges’ Victorian competition (ACC), high-quality inter-school competition is offered in many major carnivals and weekly matches. These include:

  • Athletics
  • Australian Rules Football
  • Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Chess
  • Cricket
  • Cross Country
  • Golf
  • Hockey
  • Lawn Bowls
  • Soccer
  • Swimming
  • Table tennis
  • Tennis
  • Triathlon
  • Volleyball

Whilst not technically a sport, debating is offered by the ACC and the College supports teams entering the ACC debating competition, as well as the Debaters Association of Victoria competition.

It is important to note that the ACC matches are timetabled into the school week. No Saturday morning sport enables our students to participate in local club competitions should they choose.

State Level Competitions

Our students are also involved in state-level competitions in:

  • Athletics
  • Snow sports
  • Weightlifting

Whole School Carnivals

Whole school carnivals involve students from Years 5 – 12 competing in their Houses. Sports include:

  • Athletics
  • Swimming
  • Cross country running

Lightning Premiership Football and Soccer, Years 7–9

Lightning Premierships are our round-robin style sports days where Houses compete against each other. Years 7 – 9 participate in Lightning Premiership Football and Soccer.

Sport in the Primary Years

Primary students participate in inter-school sports and opportunities also exist for them to compete at Zone, State and National Championships in Athletics.

There is also the opportunity to participate in the Year 5 — 8 High Performance Sports Program in the areas of basketball, soccer, AFL, cricket, athletics and swimming.
