Ben Fierenzi (Year 10) has been selected in the final 40 players for the Australian U/15 Baseball Team scheduled to play at the U/15 Baseball World Cup in July. Ben will travel to the Gold Coast at the beginning of July for a week’s intensive training camp the Australian High Performance baseball academy. After this, final 20 will be selected to go to Japan for three weeks, representing Australia. Ben is also competing in the U/17 National Championships in May and if they are successful, his team will be off to represent Australia in Asia in September. Congratulations and good luck, Ben!

Elias Fernandez (Year 9) has just returned from the U15 State Boys’ National Hockey Championships in Wollongong, claiming the bronze medal behind QLD (gold) and NSW (silver). He was again selected in the Victorian 1st XVI this year, and played mid field for most of the tournament.

Elias has represented Victoria at every national championship since Under 12, making this his fifth national championship. It was a great standard of hockey and a challenging tournament for the Victorian boys.

Sean Macdonald (Year 10) was selected in the U18 Victorian Metropolitan (Vic Metro) Basketball Team in February this year. After several months of intensive training together, the Vic Metro team represented Victoria in the 2016 U18 Australian Championships held in Adelaide from 16–23 April.

The Vic Metro team went through to the final series undefeated, although tested in their first two games by teams they would eventually play again in the semi and grand final. The Vic Metro team survived a thrilling semi‐final win in overtime against a strong NSW Metro team. Their grand final win against QLD South by 28 points was a strong statement to close the tournament and capture the gold medal. As one of a few ‘bottom age’ players in the tournament, Sean competed consistently well, holding his composure while playing leading roles as a point guard and shooting guard, top scoring in the grand final with 19 points.

As a result of his successful tournament, Sean has been selected in a squad of 16 National players, of which 12 players will be chosen to represent Australia in the U17 World Championships to be held in Spain in July this year. Fingers crossed!!
