Shrove Tuesday Celebration

The boys in Year 7 Solomon decided that they would help the Tiverton campus celebrate Shrove Tuesday, by selling pancakes to raise money for Mission Action Day.

During the days leading up to Shrove Tuesday, students visited every Homeroom pre‐selling the pancakes and taking the orders via their iPads.

Pancakes are associated with Shrove Tuesday, being the day preceeding the beginning of lent on Ash Wednesday. The association is through the need to use up rich foods such as eggs, milk and sugar before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent. A great way of using up these items is through the making of items such as pancakes.

Catholic fasting is emphasised by eating plainer food and refraining from food that would give pleasure — in many cultures, this means no meat, dairy or eggs.

This Lent, the boys are asked to choose something they will give up and something they will do for someone else — a great link to our Mission Action Day fundraising wher the boys can give up some pocket money to raise funds for the amazing Lasallian work overseas.
