With the subject selection process essentially concluded, the College timetable for 2015 is currently under construction. A statement of confirmation of 2015 subjects for all students from Years 7 — 11 will be sent to families in mid-November in the lead up to the Headstart Program for Year 10 and 11 students.
The College has engaged the services of Campion Education for resource list supply this year. We look forward to a smooth process over the coming months. Hard copy 2015 book lists will be distributed at the same time as subject confirmations.
Year 9 Review Committee announced
A committee has been assembled to examine the College’s current Year 9 program, with a view to establishing possibilities for the future. It is well researched that Year 9 is a critical point in the education of young men; especially so at De La Salle where at this age students conclude their time in the Middle School and prepare to move into the Senior School. The committee comprises the following staff: David Alexander, Chris Fleming, Kathie Holmes, Chris Martin, Catherine McIlroy, Rose Roe, Courtney Walton and Marta Webster.
Year 9 and 10 Miguel 2015
A number of current Year 8 students have been offered a place in the Year 9 Miguel class for 2015, based on their academic efforts and achievements over the past two years. Congratulations to those students!
As a product of the work of the Year 10 Review Committee, the place and purpose of extension, enhancement and acceleration has been repositioned within the Year 10 program, thus seeing the end of the Year 10 Miguel Homeroom as it had been from 2015. Parents of current Year 9 students attended an information night explaining the features of the new Year 10 program in Term 3.
Our Unit 3&4 students are gearing up for the VCAA examination period which commences on Wednesday 29 October and runs to Friday 21 November. We wish all of our Year 12 students and Year 11 students completing a Unit 3&4 subject the very best in their preparations for these exams.
The College-based examinations commence on Wednesday 12 November with Unit 1&2 subjects and following that, Years 7–10 progressively from Monday 17 November. Details, including exam timetables, will be issued to students and sent to parents in the coming weeks. Parents are strongly advised to avoid making travel plans or other arrangements which may prevent students from fully participating in these crucial assessments.
This advice also extends to the Headstart Program, running from November 21 to 28, involving all Year 10 and 11 students as well as Year 9 students undertaking a VCE subject in 2015 as part of the Accelerated Learning Program.
