Cross Country Carnival

DLS CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL 2014

Both students and staff were pleased that almost ideal weather conditions prevailed last Wednesday 6 August for the annual DLS Cross Country Carnival at TH King Reserve.

Of our 791 students from Year 4 — 10, there were 620 students who participated and completed the testing 3km course. Congratulations if you were part of the 78% of our Year 4 — 10 student cohort who made the effort to contribute positively towards a major college event and our Homeroom Competition.

The Homeroom Winners at each Year Level from 7 — 10 will be released by this Tuesday as we need to take into account attendance as well as individual placings.

The success of the carnival would not have been possible without the assistance of Homeroom Teachers who recorded race results and staff who acted as Check Point Officials to ensure the safety of all participants.

Special thanks to Mr Brown and Mr Close for assisting with the pre‐Carnival organisation as well as on the day, Mr M Ryan for riding his bike around the course a number of times ensuring that the runners were “on track”, Ms Upton for taking special care of any injured or sick runners and Mr McAlroy for coordinating the bus shuttle to and from TH King Reserve so smoothly.

The Top 20 Placings from the Year 7 — 10 Events will be posted on the Sports Notice Boards early next week. All DLS students are welcome to join our ACC Cross Country Squad and if you did finish in the Top 20 in your event you are expected to train.

ACC Cross Country Training is held each Tuesday and Thursday morning. Meet at Eric Raven Reserve at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday mornings or meet at the Tiverton Bus Area at 7:10 a.m. to catch the DLS Bus.

Meet at the PAC at 7:20 a.m. on Thursday mornings. Breakfast is supplied after training for the minimal cost of $2.

It is now only just over One Month until the ACC Cross Country Carnival on Wednesday September 10th at Bundoora Park. Now is the time to train as often and as hard as possible to earn a place in our 2014 ACC Cross Country Team!
