2013 De La Salle Gift and Mile

The annual De La Salle Gift and Mile were held on Friday, 17 May as part of the Founder’s Day Celebration. Despite the heavy overnight rain, the running surface at Malvern Oval was rated as a Dead 5.

A disappointing size field of only 8 runners assembled for the Mile but it still proved to be a thrilling race until the final 50 metres. Chris Northey (Year 9B) lead the race from start to finish to hold off the fast finishing Daniel Bryden (Year 10R) and Nathan Evans (Year 12M). Chris Received a trophy for his brave effort winning the 2013 De La Salle Mile.

With 5 heats held for the prestigious De La Salle Gift, the runners listed below qualified for the 2013 Final:

Alex Di Medio (Year 12J), Ed Cheesman (Year 11H), Brayden Maynard (Year 11B), Daniel Anastasio (Year 12J), Aaron Hay (Year 12J) and Sam Michael (Year 9B)

With Alex Di Medio pulling up sore soon after the start, Aaron Hay and Daniel Anastasio (both off 5 metres) pulled away from the rest of the firld for a repeat finish from 2012. In a driving finish, Daniel once again was just too strong to claim “Back to Back” De La Salle Gift victories. Daniel is the only dual winner of the De La Salle Gift in the history of the event. Well done Daniel and a great way to finish your Founder’s Day experience with another trophy!
